Odds and Ends Left In My Camera As 2012 Closes

Here are some photos which, for various reasons, never got posted to my WIVB.com and Facebook page this past year.  As I clear out the photo roll, here’s to many more memorable moments in 2013!

At WIVB-TV’s first holiday party in several years on December 15, 2012, I learned that my longtime co-worker, photographer Ron Gabalski has a weekly Tuesday night gig crooning Frank Sinatra-style at Roberto’s Restaurant in Jamestown. How’s that for multi-talented!

Here’s the view from the stage as I emceed the Amherst Chamber Business of the Year dinner, October 29, 2012. That’s John Rodgers of Independent Health in the front row who had just accepted the Business of the Year award for his company.

Met Bills Running Back Fred Jackson during a fundraiser for the Family Justice Center on October 18, 2012. He was recovering from injury, but anxious to get back on the field.

This unusual sighting of a hawk in the WIVB-TV parking lot on October 17, 2012, had the whole newsroom pressed against the windows taking pictures!

During a quick trip to Washington, D.C. on October 13, 2012, I was, once again, amazed to stand and listen to visitors from all over the world speaking in numerous languages.  The White House is truly an international tourist attraction.

On September 20, 2012, my friend and former Ch. 4 co-worker Mary Lynn Ryan was inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame.  She is a South Buffalo native and now executive at CNN who was surprised by a visit from CNN correspondent Martin Savidge during the induction ceremony.

During the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame Ceremony on September 20, 2012, all inductees, past and present, and all members of the Buffalo Broadcasters are invited to the stage for a group photo.  It is general chaos trying to get everyone to stop talking and smile!

Fellow Hall of Famer Stan Roberts and I were happy to welcome colleague Lee Coppola after his induction into the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame on September 20, 2012.  On the right is the daughter of former Channel 4 photographer Billy Cantwell.  She spoke for Billy, who now lives in Florida, after his well-deserved induction as a pioneer in Buffalo television journalism.

On August 16, 2012, family and friends gathered for a memorial to Alix Rice on Heim Road in Getzville where the teen had been struck and killed while riding her longboard home from work.  This was the day Dr. James Corasanti  was sentenced to a year in jail for being drunk at the wheel when his car struck her.

The candles are now extinguished, but a colorful memorial to Alix Rice still stands on Heim Road where she was killed by a drunk driver in July, 2011.

The Bills training camp at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford, NY, is a popular draw for local Bills fans.

Super Mario Williams was full of promise during training camp on August 11, 2012.

On August 11, 2012, Center Eric Wood was healthy again as the Bills prepared for the upcoming season.

The Bills placed popular wide receiver David Nelson on season-ending injured reserve (knee) one month after this photo was taken at Bills training camp in August.

My colleague John Murphy, the ‘Voice of the Bills’, was an employee of the Buffalo Bills organization when this photo was taken at training camp in August.

We gave Sports Director John Murphy a ‘sweet’ sendoff from Channel 4 as he left on July 25, 2012, to join the Buffalo Bills organization full time.

Co-workers from both sides of the camera crowded onto the set to say farewell to our friend and colleague John Murphy on July 25, 2012. He was a joy to work with!

It was the last night for this anchor team working together at News 4 as we bid farewell to the ‘Voice of the Bills’ John Murphy on July 25, 2012.
