Gone – But Never Forgotten!

January 28th, 2012 at 10:48 am by under Jacquie Walker's Newsroom Notebook

If you were watching News 4 at 11 on December 19, 2011 you saw a bit of WIVB-TV history. After 14 years, that was the last 11 p.m. newscast you would ever see on this news set. The next day, crews began stripping the entire studio to make way for a new look. Fourteen years is a long time to broadcast from the same set, so we are all ready for a change. And, wait until you see what comes next!

Mike Cejka (filling in for vacationing Don Paul), Don Postles, Jacquie Walker, and John Murphy during our last 11 p.m. newscast on the old news set.

This is the way our newscast looked on-air on December 19, 2011, our last night on the old set.

Don Postles and I have co-anchored the 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts on this set for about 10 years.

Don Postles, Jacquie Walker, and John Murphy all more than ready to move to a new set!

Here’s a shot of the studio as it looked for many years. Even the cameras will be replaced with our new look.

It’s the end of the old green chromakey wall – where Meteorologist Don Paul has delivered many forecasts.

As soon as the 11 p.m. news ended on December 17, 2011, we went BEHIND the set to make our mark in history.

11 p.m. producer Aaron Mason was among those signing his name and assignment on our last newscast on the old set.

Sports Director John Murphy waits in line behind Camera Operator Glenn Stiver to sign the back of the old set.

Technical Director Mickey Clemons signs as Assignment Editor/Videographer Aga Dembinska gets ready for her turn.

Assignment Editor Martha Meegan signs her name on the old set as Assignment Editor/Videographer Aga Dembinska looks on.

Here are the signatures from the FIRST night on this set: October 28, 1997. Rich Newberg, Jacquie Walker, Don Paul, and Dennis Williams anchored News 4 Buffalo that night.

Here is most of the gang who worked our final night on the old set – December 19, 2011 – Producer Aaron Mason, Assignment Editor/Videographer Aga Dembinska, Camera Operator Glenn Stiver, Anchor Jacquie Walker, Assignment Editor Martha Meegan, Director Kelly Jeromos, Technical Director Mickey Clemons, Floor Director Rob Hoffman

That’s a wrap. This crew is moving on together to a new adventure!

  1. Crista Beyer says:

I remember Brian building this set. I think we still have photos somewhere.

  2. I would bet you do, Crista. I don’t have the photos here, but I’m sure Brian’s name is on the back of the set from those early days. His work lasted a long time and carried us through as we reported years of Buffalo history. He is very much a part of this transition. He’ll be interested to see some of the construction photos I’ll post next week.

  3. Jeffery says:

Do you have a date for the new set? Cant wait to see the news in HD!

  4. This week, Jeff. Please keep watching….it will be worth the wait!
