Gorgeous Gardens Blossom for 16th Annual GardenWalk

The world can use more peace, more color, more time to stop and smell the flowers.  Buffalo’s GardenWalk provides all of this and much, much more.

Saturday, before the torrential downpour and during the near-record humidity, I made it through a few of the astounding 355 gardens open for visitors this weekend.  I can’t say enough about the care, creativity, and pride Buffalonians are exhibiting in their gardens — large and small.

This free and fun event is a gift to Western New York from a small, dedicated group of volunteers who are now gaining well-deserved national attention for their cultivated and cultivating efforts.  Bouquets to all concerned!

Martin Lemke says it has taken him 31 years to create his beautiful backyard oasis on Little Summer Street.

Floating teacups add a whimsical touch to this backyard garden area on Little Summer Street.

Some of the homes in the close-knit Cottage District were built not long after the birth of our nation.

Even the smallest backyards find room for flowers and dining.

It isn't often that 16th street sees crowds of visitors like this -- another benefit of GardenWalk.

Arlen Peters and Dom DeFillippo at 20 Norwood display all of the GardenWalk posters. They are dedicated GardenWalk veterans.

The miniatures in Arlen and Dom's yard are a favorite with visitors year after year.

The Victorian home of Jennifer and Jim Guercio at 755 W. Delavan is a popular GardenWalk destination.

The Guercios have created a tropical paradise behind their home.

The koi pond is teeming with life!

Jim Guercio dresses to match his Victorian home and is a gracious host for hundreds of GardenWalk visitors.

One of my favorite spots on the tour. Love the idea of using a mirror to reflect the glory of the garden.

I regret to say that I was slightly under the weather this year and missed The Buffalo Garden Walk. I feel much better now that I have viewed your photos. I’m not feeling so left out. Your photo’s are beautiful. Were they taken by a professional photographer?

  2. That made me laugh, Bonnie. I hope you are feeling better — I know you love GardenWalk and you could teach the rest of us a thing or two about gardening!
