Moving In at SJFC

Here we go, the long grind has begun.  The players have to know that even though they’re reporting to training camp today, they’re a long, long way from the start of the season.  To be exact, the Bills don’t play a game for real for another 7 1/2 weeks, an eternity in football time.  That’s a lot of time for possible injuries, rookie holdouts, etc.   But the players also know that the hallmark of a Dick Jauron training camp is to NOT over-work.  There will be plenty of down time and probably some unscheduled days off during the course of the four weeks of camp.

Today, Friday, is always one of the worst days of camp from a media standpoint.  There’s no practice.  The action consists of watching players haul in over-size flat screen TVs to their dorm rooms.  The mood is always optimistic and upbeat.  And mostly it’s a day to re-acquaint yourself with the setup at St. John Fisher College.
That said, Fisher remains a great locale for NFL training camp.  It’s just far enough away from Orchard Park to make it feel like the players are away at camp.  It’s close enough for Buffalo fans to make the day-trip to Rochester.  And once they’re in practice, it’s a great place to watch practice, catch lunch, and entertain the kids while you whet your appetite for the upcoming season.
We’ll be here at training camp every day with reports on WIVB and WIVB.com.  Hope you get a chance to join us.-John Murphy
