FCC Walk-in Center Redux

June 2nd, 2009 at 9:20 am by Dennis Majewicz under TV Tech Talk

As the push for the final digital transition reaches its final days, the local FCC Field Office is once again holding two walk-in help centers this weekend. These clinics will be held at local K-Mart stores on Saturday and Sunday, June 6th and 7th. The purpose is to assist with online converter coupon applications and also to demonstrate converter hook ups as well as answer any questions you may have.

On Saturday, June 6th, they will be at the K-Mart at 1001 Hertel Avenue in Buffalo. On Sunday the clinic will be at the K-Mart at 2590 Military Road in Niagara Falls. Hours for both will be 10AM to 4PM.

Look for WIVB Engineering personnel to be there helping out with technical questions.

How do you hook a TV up when there isn’t a hole in the back of the TV to hook a cable to the TV. We have a couple of TV’s that are from the 60’s. You can
only hook up rabbit ears to the back with screws. So, how do we hook the coverter box up to this kind of TV. When they advertise it on TV, they show TV’s back in the 50’s and 60’s. Well, we have one like that and can’t hook it up. They show on TV, how to hook up a TV, but they are hooking the cable right to these TV’s. They don’t show how to hook one up with no hook up on the back of the TV. What do we do now? Thanks Diane

  2. Diane,

You will need a transformer to connect your single coaxial cable from the converter to the television. You can get one at most stores that sell televisions and antennas. It is specifically a 75 ohm to 300 ohm transformer. The sales people can help you with that. There will be more information in your converter’s owners manual.

If you still have trouble hooking it up, you can contact Installs, Inc at 1-800-582-4250 for free basic installation help.
