Thanks for passing along this info. My wife and I looked up in the sky tonight, but we aren’t sure if we saw it or not.
Can you tell me where I can find further info. about this? I didn’t see any info. about this on NASA’s space station website.
Thanks
Hi James,
Here’s a pretty informative website for tracking the ISS:
http://isstracker.com/
The leftmost map should help you, along with the info provided by MB, to confirm that what you are seeing is indeed the ISS. The last pass was probably the longest for a few days but tomorrow’s (Monday Evening) at 10:05pm should also be very good (a bit brighter but shorter than tonights).
James: The times and locations listed for the ISS are EXACT. I’ve seen it several times myself. It appears as an orange/red colored “star” that constantly moves horizontally across the sky, and it is slightly larger than an average “star”. Since the recent sightings are scheduled relatively low on the horizon, it may be difficult to see the space station if you are in an area surrounded by a lot of buildings or even tall trees. I suggest you go to an open area or field for optimal viewing.
We are getting ready for the 11:15 viewing!! Clear skys to all!
Happy Memorial Day to all! Tonight’s ISS viewing should be spectacular, since it’s a bit higher above the horizon, and it may be a bit easier for more city folks to see it. Here’s the recap of Monday evening’s sighting:
ISS Mon May 25/10:06 PM
Lasts 2 minutes
Approach is 31 degrees above WNW
Departure is 30 degress above SE
Let’s just hope the high clouds stay away. Again, you’re looking for a large orange/red colored “star” that constantly moves horizontally across the sky. It’s really neat to see, and remember, the time and location are precise.
last year mike cejka put up info for iss sighting which was the most detailed info i’ve seen. it included magnitude of light emitted which is key to viewing because some are not very visible.
Tim: All of the sightings listed are very visible. The information posted above is very specific and detailed as well.
Thank you very much for the info. The times have been exact. My 11 yr old daughter & I have gotten a kick out of looking for it each night.
You are welcome, Harry W. Glad you and your daughter are enjoying. It’s great for kids to see this holiday weekend, since the viewing times are fairly reasonable. (In the past, many sightings have been at 0-dark-hundred!
) Tonight’s viewing should be quite spectacular since it’s a bit higher above the horizon and it will traverse the sky from WNW to SE. Don’t forget, it’s coming up at 10:06pm. After tonight, our chances for seeing the ISS over the next several days will be near zero with clouds and showers moving in. Have fun watching it.
thanks mike. what a view awsum. to see space station it was very brite moved fast thru the sky. first view
Appeared Extremely brite tonight It moved across the sky quite quickly and then it was gone. Amazing to see!
MB, and Don,
I printed out the viewing times and took them camping with us. We saw it 3 times. Thanks for the info.
We live in the higher elevations of Chautauqua county and have had an amazing view of the the ISS almost every night. The times posted on the website are very accurate. Last night’s viewing was spectacular! It was right overhead and very bright. Thanks for keeping us updated on the viewing times each night, we have really enjoyed watching it.
Mary Beth,
Will there be anymore viewings in the near future? I watch every night I can. I always call my niece and nephew and they are just amazed at it all. Thank You for the information.
Hi, Renee: At this time, there are no additional viewing times for the ISS. We’ll keep you posted when more are scheduled for WNY. Glad you’ve enjoyed them so far!
